University of the Third Age – U3A
10 February, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Have you heard about the University of the Third Age (U3A)? It’s a global initiative that promotes lifelong learning.
It was established in France in 1973. The first U3A in Australia was founded in Melbourne in 1984, Adelaide, ACT and Perth in 1986, Brisbane in 1987 and in Sydney in 1988. There’s one in Goulburn too.
U3A recognises the immense resources, skills, experience and enthusiasm possessed by older people who are no longer in full-time employment. Course Leaders draw on their personal experience in setting up courses and individual members can be both learners and teachers, giving their services freely. The word ‘university’ is used in its original sense; that of a group of people coming together to pursue learning for its own sake. No qualifications are required, none are awarded and there are no examinations.
If you’re over 55 years of age and would like to find out more, visit http://www.gm-u3a.com.au or phone 4822 5186.
Examples of courses on offer include walking tours, book clubs, wellbeing, various languages and a whole lot more.
